Last walk on the beach

Image
Another stunning morning and time for a walk along the beach to the fisherman's church at the West end of the bay before leaving on the afternoon flight. We collected lots of tiny coloured shells from the rock pools on the low spring tide to take home and make an ornament. Katie changed her flight from Gatwick to Luton to caught the train back to Surbiton. We arrived back in Luton by 5 oclock so we drove home the same evening so that everyone else could go back to work and I could carry on with celebrating my birthday back in Croft. .

The big 8 0 birthday and a light house

Image
It was a beautiful morning and Mark and Katie had written a birthday greeting in the sand below our balcony.  Before breakfast I opened my cards and and presents then afterwards  we caught the Libery bus to the lighthouse at Corbiere. There is a causeway connecting the rock, with its lighthouse, to the island. It is actually the first lighthouse in the world to be built using concrete. We were there at low tide so we walked to the rock for some photos and to admire the views. Then we had a light lunch and a drink at the restaurant on the headland with a splendid view of the light which would have been perfect for sunset photos. However we were dining in St Helier so took the bus back with a group of walkers from Yorkshire who were waliking round the island in 3 easy hops. We had provided family and friends with a bootle of prosseco and beer to toast my 80th so we gathered in the bar at 6:00pm and exchanged WhatsApp selfies with everyone back in the UK. Jerry tried a video call...

St Helier and St Aubin on Sunday

Image
Sunday was supposed to be the cloudy day so after an excellent breakfast we went into St Helier on the bus for a look around. Spotted a nice seafood restaurant and booked a table for my birthday dinner before having a stroll around the town. Most shops were closed on Sunday, but Katie managed to buy some shorts and I bought a sun hat. Mark and I had an icecream by the war memorial before we walked back to the Radisson Blu hotel, where we had stayed before, but it had been taken over by a triathlon event.  The snacks on the terrace was reduced to a quick coffee inside before catching the bus to St Aubins. Everywhere was booked up for Sunday lunch so we just had a browse round the art gallery where I bought Rosemary a Jersey boy then we crisps and a sandwich in the bus shelter before returning to St Brelades. Mark and Katie took the earlier bus, which involved a steep descent through the park. They were sitting with a jug of Pimm's in the bar when we arrived. We had an excellent dinn...

EasyJet to Jersey

Image
We went to the airport at just after 10 so that we could have breakfast before the flight. Usual queue at check-in even though it was much quieter than usual and the flight was less than half full. We had an empty row in front and behind and left on time for the 50 minute flight. We were all ready with our Jersey entry forms and directed to a booth to have our PCR Covid test which only took a few minutes. Katie had arrived from Gatwick about an hour earlier and was already in the bar when we took a taxi to the Golden Sands hotel at St. Brelades Bay. We had three balcony rooms on the front. Perfect sea view of the bay on a fine sunny afternoon. We had a short walk along the promenade to check restaurants and booked a table at the Crab Shack for following evening dinner.  We managed to find a table at the Reef Restaurant next to the hotel for a very late lunch with mojitos and spent the evening playing  tri-Dominoes in the bar while we waited for our PCR test results. Mark and R...

Birthday in Jersey

Image
We are jetting off to Jersey as a family to celebrate my 80th birthday. Drove down to Luton in my new VW to spend the night at Marks place before the lunch time flight.
