Home Time

Image
We are going home today after another successful short break. It's still warm and sunny for the last morning to just walk down the promenade and buy 3 of the huge tomatoes. We spotted a gift shop doing embroidered names on aprons and decided to buy one each for Eva and Alice but accidentally left them at the hotel. We took a taxi to the airport and were soon through departures. Did a bit of DF shopping, rang Club to book a taxi then had a good flight back to East Midlands where the sun was just setting. Arrived home tired but pleased to have had a memorable birthday celebration for Rosemary. The weather is due to go down hill in Malaga this weekend so we timed it well. The hotel found the aprons and are arranging for them to be sent to us.

Lazy day in Torremolinos.

We had a lazy day to ourselves in Torremolinos today and took the lift up and down to the old town. Just had coffee, shopped for some cheap summer clothes and then found a jewellers where I bought Rosemary a Pisces link for her Nomination bracelet for her birthday. We came back and sat a while on the rooftop Sky and Sea terrace. Had a glass of Sangria and a huge plate of nachos followed by a siesta. A bit of pre-packing and then a last prawn free supper/dinner  Skipped the Welsh soul singers in the bar tonight.

Family returning home

The family are flying home later today so we stayed local, left all their luggage in our room. There was time in the morning  to paddle in the med and build some sandcastles. Mark got his shorts wet as usual then we wandered down the promenade with a late lunch in a very friendly chirenquito (beach restaurant) before they left for the airport at 6:0pm. It was another fine day in Spain but freezing when they arrived home.

Málaga Tapas

Image
We took a Bolt (like Uber) into Málaga on Sunday to find the recommended tapas bar El Pimpi, owned by Antonio Banderas in the old quarter of town near the cathedral. It was a quite amazing place and we had a long lunch with a table on the second floor. Afterwards we wandered past the old Roman ampitheatre, the Alcazaba and stopped for coffee in the new marina area. I think we saw few film stars in the transport arranged for the Málaga film festival that was taking place in the first week of March. Took another Bolt back and spent the evening in the hotel again with a late dinner. There was Flamenco dancing in the bar tonight - very noisy.

Walk about La Carihuela

Image
We took the lift up into town and walked to the bus station but could not decide how to get into Málaga. So we paused for a coffee, had a look round the local food market and then walked back down the steps. We carried on round the Banana headland towards Benimeldina and La Carihuela district. This is the old fishermen's part of Torremolinos and is now the place for the best tapas restaurants and lots of holiday apartments. It was a bit late for lunch but we found a good place and another fishy tapas meal. It was a bit cold and windy walking back. We had a late dinner.

Rosemary is 80 today.

Started the day by opening the cards and presents before a bucks fizz buffet breakfast. Mark, Katie and Christina are taking an early flight to join us for the birthday celebrations and have rooms on the 9th floor with afternóon sun. They arrived around midday and we had a huge late lunch in the Melia Beach Restaurant just over the road. More cards and presents to open and Katie decorated our sitting room with balloons and banner. We had a face time call to Dean Close where Rosemary's brothers and sisters were enjoying the Proseco and cake we had delivered to them for the occasion. We stayed in the hotel for the rest of the day, played triomineos, drank cocktails and caught the last of the Elvis tribute in the bar.
