Birthday Holiday in Spain

Image
Flew out of Birmingham to Torremolinos for Rosemary birthday, staying in the Melia Costa del Del with an upgrade to Junior Suite on the 9th floor. Lovely view over the beach and sea. We arrived in time for dinner and settle in before family arrive tomorrow.

Return via Covent Garden

Image
We had coffee and croissants on the way to Covent Garden where we browsed around the market and watched the street entertainers before making our way by tube to St Pancras. We had lunch in one of the few remaining Carluccios on the concourse before returning to Croft the way we had come to be home by 5:00.

Les Miz in London

Image
Enjoyed a night in Victory House hotel and Les Miz at the Sondheim theatre. We took the FoxConnect to Narborough station and the train to St Pancras to get to our hotel off Leicester Square. Before the theatre we had a meal at Cotes brassarie and afterwards walked through China Town with shop at M&M and a free coffee at Greggs.

Another market and Late Home

Image
The flight home was not until late so we had most of the day in Palma again and went off to find the other market and see some more of the interesting old town. Had a chat with some Canadians who had a second home in town (cheaper than Florida) and spent the winter in Palma to escape the the freezing temperatures back home. What a good idea! Tried to find the genuine fish and chip shop near the market (for Lisa) but it was closed on Monday so we had to have hake and chips at another one nearby. Bought a huge orange from the market to have with our pancakes on Tuesday.  We had dry sunny weather, just the right temperature for walking around and enjoyed the break. I think Majorca may become another regular out of season destination for us.

Soller Vintage Railway

Image
We took the vintage electric railway through the spectacular mountain scenery to Soller and then the vintage tram to the port. We had a nice fishy Sunday lunch in a restaurant  overlooking the harbour on a rather bright and breezy day. Did a bit of shopping while waiting for the tram and the return journey in the evening sunshine. It was a really nice relaxing and scenic day out, obviously popular with the locals and tourists a like.

Fish Market and Gallery

Image
We walked down to the Cathedral via the old town and then to the market. We enjoyed wandering around the modern art gallery on the way and then managed to grab one seat at a busy tapas bar in the Saturday market and had some excellent prawns and squid for lunch. This is the way to eat fresh fish, cooked in front of you with the locals, not cheap but delicious. We had walked quite a way so took the bus back to the hotel and had late dinner in the hotel again.

80th Pre Birthday Break

Image
We are starting the birthday year with a trip to Palma with Jet2. Taxi to airport and nice flight arriving late afternoon. The Suntransfers driver was on time and we were soon checked in to the Melia Innside City hotel. It's about 1 mile from coast and close to the main transport hub.  We ate in the hotel restaurant which we found had moved from the rooftop to the downstairs bar area until the summer.
