Where is the Beast?

We had a good flight home, a long queue in passport control at East Midlands but the taxi was waiting for us so we were home by about 7:00 pm. Apart from a little bit of white to be seen in hedges along side fields there was no evidence of the Beast from the East apart from the tales of freezing winds and ice from the survivors! We had completely missed the week of arctic weather in the UK but we had not exactly been basking in the sun for a week as we had rain, sometimes most of the day, on five out of seven days. But it was warm! Enjoyed the Level service at the Melia and we will not be put off by the rain in Spain for next year.

Rain in Spain again

Usual start - rain. But we are leaving it all behind us to jet home this afternoon and see if there is any snow left.

Joggers in wet suits?

Guess what, opened the curtains and it's raining again. However by the time we had breakfast there were sunny intervals so we were able to promenade with everyone else who had been confined to barracks. In fact despite the forecast for heavy showers Torremolinos missed all of them. We walked just round the corner on the promenade and had a coffee and cake in the cafe below the headland with its sunny apartments.

The Marbella Brollie Mystery

Was it 1) abandoned here by a soaked holiday maker 2) taken by a sudden squall and landed here 3) hit by an orange

A hint of blue sky

There's just a chance of a little sun today so we are off to Marbella on the bus. It takes about an hour apparently. The bus goes down the coast through Benalmadena, Fuengirola and Cala de Mijas before reaching the Marbella bus station by the side of the motorway. It was then a twenty minute walk down hill to the centre and the marina. There are lots of oranges on the trees that line the pavements. Rosemary knocked one off to taste. Now we know why they are still on the trees, very bitter! It stayed dry until we reached the front and bucketed down whilst we had lunch of tapas and pizza in the nearest pavement cafe. A long stretched out lunch until the rain had abated to ordinary light rain. We made our way back up the hill via some high street shops and caught the 5 o'clock bus back. That was Marbella that was.

Rain again in Spain

Another start to the day with heavy rain and windy. Maybe it will dry up a bit later like yesterday or it could be another 'sea' day. We played triominoes and just managed to find a dry enough break to get to the local mini market for some milk and cough mixture.

Rosemary's birthday

Image
Cards have been opened, birthday song played on the BT speaker and breakfasted. Then it all went downhill for a few hours while the rain lashed down outside raising a few drain covers. We waited for a break in the rain and made it to Antonio's chiringuito for a fishy birthday lunch. The afternoon was quite pleasant in the sunny intervals provided one avoided being sandblasted by the strong gusty winds off the beach. The rain had taken a toll of the sand sculptures that were being  readied for the start of the season. When we arrived back in our room at tea time we were visited by a waiter with a bottle of Cava, a platter of macaroons and a box of chocolates from the Level team. What a nice surprise!!!!
